Shri Jagat Shiromani Ji Temple: The Meera Mandir of Amer, Jaipur

 Everyone goes to Amer Fort. Almost no one stops right next to it for this.  

Shri Jagat Shiromani Ji Temple, or Meera Mandir, is 11 km from Jaipur, and it’s one of those places that quietly stops you in your tracks.

 Built for love, loss, and devotion, this 400-year-old temple ties together 3 names you already know: Krishna, Meerabai, and the royal family of Amber.

 The Story Behind It

The temple was built between 1599 and 1608 CE by Queen Kanakwati, wife of Raja Man Singh I of Amber. She built it in memory of her son, Prince Jagat Singh. 

The main deity here is Lord Krishna as Jagat Shiromani — “the crown jewel of the world.”

But here’s why people actually call it Meera Mandir.  

Local tradition says the Krishna idol worshipped by Meerabai in Mewar was brought to Amer and installed here to protect it during political unrest. Meerabai, the 16th-century Rajput princess, saint, and poet, devoted her entire life to Krishna. So when you stand in this temple, you’re standing where her bhakti literally lives on.

Architecture That Makes You Look Twice

Forget plain temples. This one is sandstone and marble, and it’s a mix of Rajput and Mughal styles.

- How to reach: 30 mins by cab/auto/public buses from Jaipur. Easily done with Amer Fort.  

- Best Time: October to March. Cool weather, perfect for heritage walks.
