👉Taragarh Fort, popularly known as Bundi Fort, is one of the oldest hill forts in Rajasthan. It was built in 1354 Vikram Samvat (1297 CE) by Rao Deva Hada, the founder of Bundi State. Constructed on a steep hillside of the Aravalli Range at an elevation of about 1,426 feet above sea level, the fort was designed to protect the kingdom from invasions. Due to its strategic location and strong fortifications, Taragarh became one of the most powerful military forts of medieval Rajasthan.

 

👉The fort is famous for its massive gateways, thick defensive walls, bastions, water reservoirs, and underground passages. Within the fort complex, there are several remarkable structures, including the Ratan Daulat, Chhatra Mahal, and Badal Mahal, which display the grandeur of Rajput architecture. The nearby Chitrashala is renowned for its exquisite Bundi-style miniature paintings depicting scenes from the Ramayana, Mahabharata, the life of Lord Krishna, royal processions, festivals, and nature. These paintings are considered masterpieces of the Bundi School of Art.

 

👉Taragarh Fort has witnessed many important historical events and remained the stronghold of the Hada Chauhan rulers for centuries. It reflects the bravery, military strength, and artistic excellence of the Rajputs. From the fort, visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of Bundi city, Nawal Sagar Lake, palaces, and the surrounding hills.

 

👉The fort is located about 210 kilometres from Jaipur and is easily accessible by road and rail through Bundi Railway Station. The best time to visit is from October to March, when the weather is pleasant and suitable for exploring the fort and nearby monuments.
