👉Jalore is one of the oldest historic cities in southwestern Rajasthan and is often called the "Granite City of Rajasthan" because of its high-quality granite reserves. In ancient times, it was known as Jabalipura, believed to be named after the sage Jabali. 


👉The city flourished under several dynasties, including the Pratiharas, Paramaras, and the Chauhans, who greatly contributed to its political and cultural development.The founder of the chauhan dynasty in Jalore was Kirtipal Chauhan.He founded the songara chauhan dynasty in Jalore by defeating the Parmar rulers in 1181 AD

 

👉The most famous landmark of Jalore is the Jalore Fort, also known as Suvarnagiri Fort (Golden Fort). Built on a steep hill, the fort is considered one of the strongest forts of Rajasthan. During the reign of Rao Kanhadade Chauhan, the fort became a symbol of Rajput bravery as he courageously resisted the invasion of Alauddin Khalji. The city is also known for the Sundha Mata Temple, an important pilgrimage site dedicated to Goddess Chamunda, situated on Sundha Hill and admired for its natural beauty and historical importance.

 

👉Jalore is well connected by road and rail to major cities such as Jodhpur and Ahmedabad. The nearest airport is Jodhpur Airport, approximately 140 kilometres away. The ideal time to visit is between October and March, when the climate is cool and suitable for exploring its historical sites.
